I think the Grocery Store musical would be interesting to analyze because unlike any other musical it is improved in a spot where no one really thinks much of, a grocery store. As the actors break out into song about fruit, the lyrics are interesting and funny but bring interest into the audience. First because the unusual breakthrough of song, but also the topic of “fruit squishing together”. Also, the people chosen to act out the song are all different, for example a pregnant woman, a business man a girl in a trench coat. They make the song seem real and typical that people would sing about fruit. Another interesting aspect of the food song is the reaction to the people as they shop throughout the grocery store.
Orbit Gum Commercial
I think this commercial would be interesting to analyze because it shows the allusions of food as their quarrel over a problem between the two girls they refer to each other like “what the French toast?” The commercial also gears towards how their gum, Orbit can “clean-up” your mouth. This commercial is interesting how they interplay the tasks of food for other things such as insults but also physically cleaning out each other’s mouth. Another funny aspect about the commercial is how this gum instantly cleans out the vocabulary of your mouth. Not to mention the setting given in the background of the commercial: an empty office.
I think using the Grocery Store Musical option for your PSA would be great! It's different, something that the rest of the class probably hasn't seen before. I also think you're going to have more material to work with when it comes to producing your papers!
ReplyDeleteI love the Grocery Store Musical choice! I think you have a lot to work with and a lot of different views to take with that video. I am personally biased to the musical clip because theatre is a huge passion of mine but I really do believe it's a great option. I agree with Alex when she said you'd have more material with the musical than the Orbit commercial. You would also have an easier time finding a deeper meaning and understanding with the musical than the Orbit commercial. I definitely look forward to seeing what you write about with either source!
ReplyDeleteThe Grocery Store Musical is a better option for you to work on your PSA. The video is attractive and funny; it contains a lot of information that you can use and analysis in your paper. I think you will do great with that particular source.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the above comments. Looking at your two primary sources, I think that the grocery store musical option would give you a lot more to discuss, at least when it comes to food and food-related issues. In particular, you'd want to think about why they're staging the musical improv in a grocery store, what they're trying to accomplish through it. You'd also want to think about the lyrics of the song: are they just silly, or is there a message they're trying to send? I think it would make for a fabulous ARP.
